How safe is a crib tent? Can’t find anything online about safety of a crib tent? ?
My 15 mo. old grandson has climbed out of his crib. He wasn’t hurt…this time. His parents are considering a crib tent since they feel he may be too young for a toddler bed. His crib is the combo kind that makes into a toddler bed, then full size bed. The rails in front are lower than the back, so we are concerned the crib tent may not work. I have not found any thing online that the tents are unsafe with the exception of one reviewer on babycenter.com who said a friends child was hurt seriously with one. I can’t find anything else but the crib tent to help keep a child in the crib. Serious answers please.
Halo makes sleep sacks in larger sizes, up to 2T I think. This would make it tougher to climb as he couldnt swing one leg up and over. Although kids can be crafty.
I’ve always seen them advertised for keeping your cat out of the crib more than keeping a child in. If the child wedges himself/herself between the ledge and the crib tent, the tent will prob not have a fight against the weight of the child. I would have them switch it into a toddler bed and if they don’t think the side bedrail is enough they can purchase one at toysrus.com which runs the length of the bed. At least the child won’t have such a long fall.
Go to babiesrus.com and look up the crib tents…there are tons of reviews from ppl who have bought crib tents and im reading some of them and they really arent a bad idea they dont have bad ratings…Ive seen quite a few good ones!
Well, the doctors say if they are able to climb out of the crib, it’s time for a big kid bed anyways. I’ve always heard that although they don’t injure children, they can be defeated(kids are too smart, lol) easily, and also, if there is an emergency, you may have trouble getting into the crib to get the child out so you can get out of the house. And it doesn’t sound like one would fit that particular brand of crib anyways, with the one side being lower than the rest. Have his parents convert it to a toddler bed. My daughter loves her converted bed, she still sleeps well with the idea that her crib is there, she actually won’t get out of it until we open the door and turn on her light in the morning, although she will sit and talk or play for hours if we let her. My friends little girl managed to get under the edge of it and slide out from under, and her pjs got snagged and held her upsidedown until mom got into the room. She wasn’t hurt, but that doesn’t seem very safe to me, lol. She was only 13 months old and went to a toddler bed, she did just fine. And the fall is a lot less from the matress level than the top of the crib, lol. He seems like a very bright little boy who might be ready for a big boy bed.
Good luck!
They are OK, but I think in your grandson’s case it would be a waste of money. I bought one used at a garage sale. I used it for ages for my daughter, and she never fell out unless her daddy forgot to zip it up. I started using it on my son when I caught him trying to climb out of his crib 3 nights running. It lasted for about 2 months before he figured out how to open the zipper. One night he met me at the top of the steps at 2am.
What worked best for my son was a toddler bed (it is not even 12 inches off the floor) with a baby gate in the bedroom door. He would get up and call for me to come get him when he woke up. At 25 months he learned how to climb the gate so I had to take it down. Now he just walks down the steps and lays down on the couch until morning.
