How can people help catch child predators in chat rooms?
I know this is the job for the police but we know they can’t do it all and there’s too many child predators or pedophiles on the Internet and too many children being abducted. We also know there are some parents who fail to talk to their children about Internet safety and fail to put in softwares that help record Internet activities and so forth…. we also know that children will lie to their parents about what they’re doing online.
Child predators really need to be dealt with because of those reasons. I’ve read that one can get into trouble if you go in a chat room and pretend to be a young child when you’re not. I don’t see why. There must be something else that can be done.
If I do enter a chat room and pretend to be a young child and I want to be anonymous when reporting this pedophile, is that possible? Is it possible to be anonymous and not involved at all once the report is in?
go to police station and ask how you can help
if you do on own they can arrest you as while as them.
You dont care about crime. you just want to talk naughty to fat sweaty old men.
Ask the chat room their political affiliation. All the Republicans are the child predators.
Yeah that is a problem..
I don’t know I think you should be able to do everything anonymously maybe you could send a letter to the cops or something with no return adress? but 1st answer is probably right….
lol i always thought of talking to someone and giving them the address of a police station and saying its my house.. xD
Become a police officer or federal agent, this is not an area for amateurs.
Perverted Justice is not a recognized program within the law enforcement community; even if they have been used by some agencies in association with the TV “To Catch a Predator” series. Much caution must be exercised, no one is authorized to possess child pornography, even by those investigating it, unless in direct pursuit of a governmental criminal investigation.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (www.NCMEC.org and/or missingkids.com), has information available and provides a reporting mechanism for child exploitation (CyberTipline, available on the web site). This non-profit was created by Congress, and partial funding for this agency is provided by the Dept of Justice.
Most likely you do not have the expertise to communicate with someone in a chat room who is truly a pedophile. There are some departments that use volunteers for such an assignment but all of the computer work is done from the police department and you would need to go to classes first.
By the way the public believes the same as you that “too many children are being abducted”. In 2009 less than 30 children were actually abducted by strangers and I don’t think any were connected to the Internet. For example this boy who is missing from his school apparently was taken by his step mother and not somebody coming into the school.
Law enforcement has their own system of finding predators are online. For you to go online and pretend to a young child..you could yourself end up in jail..this is a serious issues for law enforcement to deal with not a private citizen.
You’d best leave catching these types of criminals to the police. You may be the one who ends up with problems if you falsely accuse someone of a crime and there really isn’t a crime. The police are professionals who are fully aware of the current laws, and are able to deal with these criminals in a way that builds their case against the criminal. Since you are not a police officer, any information you would get would not likely be usable in a court of law. This information has to be documented exactly as it occurred by the police, who will spend many hours compiling information against a criminal for their court case. We’d all like to see these criminals put away for good, but unless it’s done correctly, they walk away free and are wiser the next time they try something. The police are already in the chat rooms. That’s how they catch these perverts. Just leave the child predators to the police! They do a terrific job, and they know the law!
